Chapter 33: The Feasts Of The Lord
All of the seven feasts of the Old Testament signify an important event in God's redemption program for mankind. The first three feasts were fulfilled during Christ’s first advent when he was sacrificed, suffered and buried, and resurrected. Passover
Leviticus 23:5 The Lord's Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. (The first month on the Hebrew calendar begins in the spring, late March or early April) 1 Corinthians 5:7 Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast--as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. John 1:29 KJV The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. The feast of Passover represented the crucifixion of Christ. Unleavened Bread
Leviticus 23:6 On the fifteenth day of that month the Lord's Feast of Unleavened Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. The feast of unleavened bread, which is celebrated the day after the Passover, signified Christ’s suffering, death, burial and the three days in the tomb Firstfruits
Exodus 23:19 "Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. 1 Corinthians 15:20 & 23 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. The feast of firstfruits foreshadowed the resurrection of Christ. Pentecost
Deuteronomy 16:10 Then celebrate the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost) to the LORD your God by giving a freewill offering in proportion to the blessings the LORD your God has given you. The feast of Pentecost was celebrated fifty days after Passover, and was a celebration of the good gifts that God had given the Israelites. Luke 11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! Acts 2:1 & 4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. The gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out on the day of Pentecost to empower the disciples and the church to begin the preaching of the gospel to all nations. This was the fulfillment of the fourth Old Testament feast, Pentecost. The rest of the feasts pertain to his second coming. Three more remain to be fulfilled, and the next one on the list is the feast of the trumpets. |
