CHAPTER 8: THE MYSTERY OF THE VIRGIN BIRTH

ANOTHER GREAT MYSTERY THAT HAS TROUBLED THOSE STRIVING TO HAVE FAITH IS THE VIRGIN BIRTH. FOR CENTURIES THE HUMAN MIND HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT SUCH A THING COULD BE POSSIBLE, EXCEPT BY FAITH.

NOW, IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY WE NO LONGER HAVE TO BE MYSTIFIED BY GOD’S WORK, AS MODERN SCIENCE CAN ALSO DUPLICATE A SIMILAR MIRACLE. ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION IS A COMMON MEDICAL PRACTICE.

THE FACT THAT THE GOD WHO CREATED MANKIND COULD ARTIFICIALLY INSEMINATE A VIRGIN WOMAN THROUGH THE POWER OF HIS HOLY SPIRIT SHOULD COME AS NO SURPRISE TO ANYONE IN TODAY’S WORLD.

GOD PREDICTED THROUGH ISAIAH THAT HE WOULD CAUSE A VIRGIN TO CONCEIVE FOR A SIGN TO THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

THE FULFILLMENT OF THIS PROPHECY IS RECORDED IN THE BOOK OF MATTHEW.

Matthew 1:18-25 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

THE BIBLE DOES NOT GIVE US ALL OF THE CLINICAL DETAILS CONCERNING HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT INITIATED THE CONCEPTION OF MARY. GOD HAS THE OPTION OF PERFORMING HIS WORK IN ANY MANNER HE CHOOSES, AND UNTIL HE REVEALS HIS METHODS TO US WE CAN ONLY GUESS AT HOW HE ACCOMPLISHES HIS WILL. HAVING SAID THAT, I DO HAVE A NEW THEORY AS TO HOW HE COULD HAVE BROUGHT ABOUT THE VIRGIN BIRTH.

THE CREATION OF ADAM

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

WHEN GOD CREATED ADAM, HE DID NOT IMMEDIATELY CREATE A WIFE FOR OUR ANCIENT ANCESTOR. ADAM SPENT TIME DOING GOD’S WILL AND NAMING THE ANIMALS BEFORE HE REALIZED HE WAS WITHOUT A MATE HIMSELF.

Genesis 2:19-20 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

ADAM HAD NOT YET SINNED AT THIS POINT IN TIME AND ANY OFFSPRING HE MIGHT HAVE PRODUCED WOULD BE WITHOUT SIN ALSO. HOWEVER, ADAM DID NOT HAVE A WIFE YET, SO HE COULD NOT FATHER ANY PERFECT CHILDREN.

Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

Genesis 2:21-22 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

NOW THE LORD DETERMINED THAT IT WAS NOT GOOD FOR ADAM TO BE ALONE, SO HE CREATED A MATE FOR ADAM USING A PART OF ADAMS OWN BODY AS THE BASIS, THE INITIAL COMPONENT OF CREATING THE WOMAN.

Genesis 2:23-24 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

GOD COULD HAVE CREATED EVE FROM THE DUST OF THE GROUND JUST AS HE DID ADAM, BUT HE WANTED THE TWO OF THEM TO BE PHYSICALLY RELATED TO ONE ANOTHER, MAKING AN ETERNAL BOND BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN.

NOW WHILE GOD WAS PERFORMING THIS SURGERY ON ADAM AND CREATING EVE, HE COULD ALSO HAVE VERY EASILY PROCURED A SEMEN SAMPLE FROM ADAM TO BE PRESERVED FOR FUTURE USE, IN CASE THE MAN AND HIS WIFE SHOULD SIN. GOD WOULD THEN BE ABLE TO IMPREGNATE A WOMAN WITH THE SEED OF ADAM, ACQUIRED BEFORE ADAM SINNED, AND CREATE A PERFECT BODY, ONE WITHOUT SIN, FOR HIS MESSIAH.

WHILE THIS MAY SOUND FAR FETCHED TO THOSE READING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME, REMEMBER THAT GOD PLANNED THE REDEMPTION OF MANKIND BEFORE HE EVER CREATED HUMAN BEINGS.

1 Peter 1:18-21 KJV Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

Ephesians 1:4-11 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace
that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,

THE FIRST ADAM WAS ALSO CALLED THE SON OF GOD AS WAS JESUS.

Luke 3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

Luke 1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

1 John 5:9, 12-13 We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

JESUS DIFFERED FROM ADAM HOWEVER BECAUSE HE EXISTED BEFORE HE TOOK ON A HUMAN BODY AND WAS BORN INTO THIS WORLD ON THE PLANET CALLED EARTH.

JESUS THE MESSIAH IN THE SCRIPTURES IS CALLED THE LAST ADAM, MEANING THE SECOND ADAM, OR THE SECOND PERFECT MAN.

1 Corinthians 15:45-47 KJV And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.

Romans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned--

Romans 5:13-19 for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come. But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

1 Corinthians 15:48-49 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.

THE BIBLICAL COMPARISONS BETWEEN ADAM AND JESUS CHRIST INDICATE THAT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THEM THAT IS MUCH CLOSER AND MORE COMPLEX THAN BETWEEN CHRIST AND THE REST OF THE HUMAN RACE.

ALL WHO BELIEVE ARE CALLED THE SONS OF GOD BY ADOPTION, AND THAT IS IN A FUTURE TENSE.

Romans 8:23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

ONLY ADAM AND JESUS ARE PRESENTED WITH THAT TITLE IN THE SCRIPTURES AS A MATTER OF RIGHT.

SUMMARY OF THE VIRGIN BIRTH

GOD WITH HIS POWER COULD HAVE INITIATED THE VIRGIN BIRTH IN MANY WAYS. HE COULD HAVE CAUSED MARY TO CONCEIVE WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF IMPREGNATION. HE COULD HAVE CREATED BY HIS POWER A PERFECT SPERM CELL AND HAD GABRIEL IMPLANT IT IN MARY’S WOMB. HE COULD HAVE SPOKEN A WORD A BY HIS POWER IT WOULD HAVE COME TO PASS INSTANTANEOUSLY.

IT SEEMS LIKELY THOUGH, GIVEN THE MANY COMPARISONS IN THE SCRIPTURE BETWEEN ADAM AND CHRIST THAT THE HUMAN BODY THAT JESUS USED WHILE HE WALKED THE EARTH WAS THE PRODUCT OF THE UNION OF A PERFECT SPERM CELL GARNERED FROM ADAM BEFORE HE SINNED, AND IMPLANTED IN MARY, THE MOTHER OF JESUS.

IS IT TOO MUCH TO BELIEVE THAT GOD, WHO CREATED HUMANS FROM DUST AND DIRT COULD CAUSE A WOMAN TO CONCEIVE WITHOUT HAVING HAD SEXUAL INTERCOURSE, WHEN WE ARE ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS TODAY?

THE SEED OF ADAM WOULD HAVE ALLOWED MARY TO GIVE BIRTH TO A BODY FOR JESUS THAT WAS FREE FROM AUTOMATICALLY SINNING. THIS BODY WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE ADAM’S, THE FIRST MAN, WHO HAD THE OPTION OF CHOOSING TO DO GOOD OR TO DO EVIL. NORMAL HUMANS DO NOT HAVE THIS OPTION, WE SIN FROM THE DAYS OF OUR YOUTH. WE DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT SIN IS UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE, AND WE ARE ALREADY GUILTY OF IT, AND IN NEED OF FORGIVENESS.

GOD TOOK CHRISTS SPIRIT AND PUT IT IN THIS HUMAN BODY THAT MARY
GAVE BIRTH TO. CHRIST KNEW WHO HE WAS, BUT HE STILL HAD THE SAME HUMAN FEELINGS AND DESIRES THAT WE DO, AND HE RESISTED ALL TEMPTATION TO SIN AND GAVE HIMSELF FOR OUR SINS. THIS WAS CHRISTS TEST, AND HE PASSED IT.

JESUS CHRIST, WHO HIMSELF CREATED THE UNIVERSE AT THE COMMAND OF GOD, HAD TO BE TESTED TO SEE IF HE WOULD VOLUNTARILY SERVE GOD ONE HUNDRED PERCENT IF HE WERE PLACED IN A HUMAN BODY LIKE THE ONE HE HIMSELF MADE FOR US.

John 1:1-3 NIV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

CHRIST COULD HAVE SINNED HAD HE SO DESIRED, AND BECOME AN ENEMY OF GOD, LIKE SATAN IS. BECAUSE HE PASSED THE TEST, GOD HAS GIVEN CHRIST THE RIGHT TO RULE AND REIGN OVER THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE AND TO REWARD ALL OF THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN HIM, (CHRIST) WITH ETERNAL LIFE AND TO RULE THE UNIVERSE WITH HIM.

Revelation 11:15 NIV The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."

2 Timothy 2:11-12 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;
