As we have seen the book of Revelation describes the coming to power of the Antichrist and the False Prophet as the emergence of two great beasts, one from the sea, and one from the earth. The beast with seven heads and ten horns is Leviathan. This beast symbolizes the Antichrist, his kingdom, and the kings allied with him. Behemoth symbolizes the false prophet, false religion, and mystery Babylon. More on Leviathan and Behemoth later. Right now we will look at how the prophecies in the book of Daniel coincide with those in Revelation.

(Revelation 13:1 & 8 NIV) And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast--all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.

The Prophet Daniel, whom Jesus spoke of approvingly, also wrote about the end times and the Antichrist and his kingdom. We skipped over these prophecies during our study of Daniel and angels because they specifically refer to the end times. These prophecies were given to Daniel by dreams and visions, but were interpreted to him by angels, primarily by Gabriel.

(Dan 7:1-6 NCV)  In Belshazzar's first year as king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream. He saw visions as he was lying on his bed, and he wrote down what he had dreamed. Daniel said: "I saw my vision at night. In the vision the wind was blowing from all four directions, which made the sea very rough. I saw four huge animals come up from the sea, and each animal was different from the others. "The first animal looked like a lion, but had wings like an eagle. I watched this animal until its wings were torn off. It was lifted from the ground so that it stood up on two feet like a human, and it was given the mind of a human. Then I saw a second animal before me that looked like a bear. It was raised up on one of its sides and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. It was told, 'Get up and eat all the meat you want!' "After that, I looked, and there before me was another animal. This animal looked like a leopard with four wings on its back that looked like a bird's wings. This animal had four heads and was given power to rule.


(Dan 7:7-8 NCV)  "After that, in my vision at night I saw in front of me a fourth animal that was cruel, terrible, and very strong. It had large iron teeth. It crushed and ate what it killed, and then it walked on whatever was left. This fourth animal was different from any animal I had seen before, and it had ten horns. "While I was thinking about the horns, another horn grew up among them. It was a little horn with eyes like a human's eyes. It also had a mouth, and the mouth was bragging. The little horn pulled out three of the other horns.

The creature uproots or pulls out three horns. These are the three kings that rebel against Antichrist will he will overthrow them.


(Dan 7:9 NCV)  "As I looked, thrones were put in their places, and God, who has been alive forever, sat on his throne. His clothes were white like snow, and the hair on his head was white like wool. His throne was made from fire, and the wheels of his throne were blazing with fire.


(Dan 7:10 NCV)  A river of fire was flowing from in front of him. Many thousands of angels were serving him, and millions of angels stood before him. Court was ready to begin, and the books were opened.


(Dan 7:11 NCV)  "I kept on looking because the little horn was bragging. I kept watching until finally the fourth animal was killed. Its body was destroyed, and it was thrown into the burning fire.

Satan has been a liar a boaster and a braggart from the beginning so it is nothing unusual if his protégé the Antichrist would follow his mentors traits.


(Dan 7:12 NCV)  (The power and rule of the other animals had been taken from them, but they were permitted to live for a certain period of time.)

When Christ returns some of the kings who were under the Antichrists dominion will be permitted to live into the millennium for a time to witness the true Messiah, Jesus Christ ruling and reigning on the earth.

(Dan 7:13-14 NCV)  "In my vision at night I saw in front of me someone who looked like a human being coming on the clouds in the sky. He came near God, who has been alive forever, and he was led to God. He was given authority, glory, and the strength of a king. People of every tribe, nation, and language will serve him. His rule will last forever, and his kingdom will never be destroyed.

Jesus Christ will come on the clouds of heaven and rule and reign forever. Daniel prophesied of this before Jesus Christ even came for the first time.


(Dan 7:15-20 NCV)  "I, Daniel, was worried. The visions that went through my mind frightened me. I came near one of those standing there and asked what all this meant. "So he told me and explained to me what these things meant: 'The four great animals are four kingdoms that will come from the earth. "Then I wanted to know what the fourth animal meant, because it was different from all the others. It was very terrible and had iron teeth and bronze claws. It was the animal that crushed and ate what it killed and then walked on whatever was left. I also wanted to know about the ten horns on its head and about the little horn that grew there. It had pulled out three of the other ten horns and looked greater than the others. It had eyes and a mouth that kept bragging.


(Dan 7:21-22 NCV)  As I watched, the little horn began making war against God's holy people and was defeating them until God, who has been alive forever, came. He judged in favor of the holy people who belong to the Most High God; then the time came for them to receive the power to rule.


(Dan 7:23 NCV)  "And he explained this to me: 'The fourth animal is a fourth kingdom that will come on the earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will destroy people all over the world. It will walk on and crush the whole earth.

In times past many have said that this empire represented the Roman Empire, and indeed, at it’s height the Roman empire was a partial fulfillment of this verse. But, the Roman empire was never able to rule over the entire world simply because the means of transportation and communication had not been invented at that time to make it possible. The Roman empire could only dominate Europe and Parts of Asia so we know the ultimate fulfillment of this verse is yet future.

(Dan 7:24 NCV)  The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this fourth kingdom. After those ten kings are gone, another king will come. He will be different from the kings who ruled before him, and he will defeat three of the other kings.

Just as it says in Revelation concerning John’s vision, the ten horns represent ten kings. The ten kings will be in power before Antichrist. He will not appoint them they precede him. But, when Antichrist comes on the scene he will defeat three of the ten kings and the rest will submit to him involuntarily rather than be destroyed. Perhaps this is why God will permit some of the kings to live after Antichrist is thrown into the lake of fire, because they did not all willingly follow him but did so out of fear.


(Dan 7:25 NCV)  This king will speak against the Most High God, and he will hurt and kill God's holy people. He will try to change times and laws that have already been set. The holy people that belong to God will be in that king's power for three and one-half years.

What we have already learned earlier is repeated here in Daniel. God will permit the saints to be persecuted by Antichrist for 3 1/2 years and then he will rescue those who are still alive in the rapture and resurrect those who have died.


(Dan 7:26 NCV)  "'But the court will decide what should happen. The power of the king will be taken away, and his kingdom will be completely destroyed.

The court here is not some worldly court on earth, it is a heavenly court. Although God has already told us what will happen the angels and the beings in heaven will wholeheartedly approve of action that is to come. Heaven will rejoice and be glad when Satan and his followers are defeated.


(Dan 7:27 NCV)  Then the holy people who belong to the Most High God will have the power to rule. They will rule over all the kingdoms under heaven with power and greatness, and their power to rule will last forever. People from all the other kingdoms will respect and serve them.'

(Dan 7:28 NCV)  "That was the end of the dream. I, Daniel, was very afraid. My face became white from fear, but I kept everything to myself."

(Dan 12:1 NCV)  "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will stand up. There will be a time of much trouble, the worst time since nations have been on earth, but your people will be saved. Everyone whose name is written in God's book will be saved.


Just before the return of Jesus Christ, there will be a time of trouble unequaled in the annals of human history. This is the time period known as the "great tribulation," or the "time of Jacob's trouble."

Matthew 24:21 KJV "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be."

Jeremiah 30:7 KJV "Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it."


(Dan 12:2 NCV)  Many people who have already died will live again. Some of them will wake up to have life forever, but some will wake up to find shame and disgrace forever.

There are actually two resurrections covered in the verse above, the rapture first and then 1000 years later the resurrection of the lost and everyone who dies during the millennium. This is explained in more detail in Revelation chapter 20.

(Rev 20:4-6 NIV)  I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.


(Dan 12:3 NCV)  The wise people will shine like the brightness of the sky. Those who teach others to live right will shine like stars forever and ever.

The King James Says “Those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.” This means soul winners and those who teach people the ways of the Lord. That is why it is important for us all to do whatever God has for us to do, and his purpose always includes telling others about Jesus.

(Dan 12:3 KJV)  And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.


(Dan 12:4 NCV)  "But you, Daniel, close up the book and seal it. These things will happen at the time of the end. Many people will go here and there to find true knowledge."

(Dan 12:5-7 NCV)  Then I, Daniel, looked, and saw two other men. One was standing on my side of the river, and the other was standing on the far side. The man who was dressed in linen was standing over the water in the river. One of the two men spoke to him and asked, "How long will it be before these amazing things come true?" The man dressed in linen, who stood over the water, raised his hands toward heaven. And I heard him swear by the name of God who lives forever, "It will be for three and one-half years. The power of the holy people will finally be broken, and then all these things will come true."

There is a double meaning in the verse above. The saints of God will be persecuted for 3 1/2 years during the tribulation period. That much is clear because it is so stated in a previous verse and also in the book of Revelation. The second meaning is a little more ambiguous but true nonetheless. Notice that one angel asks another angel, (probably Gabriel) “How long will it be before these amazing things come true?” Gabriel really did give a true and correct answer, even though Daniel was not given power to understand it.

(Dan 12:7 NIV)  The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, "It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed."

A time, times, and a half a time can represent 3 1/2 years or 3500 years. Both are true in this case. Daniel was living in the year 3500 from the creation of and all things will be fulfilled in 7000 years from Adam’s creation. 3500 + 3500 = 7000. Remember, that everything being fulfilled includes the 1000 years called the millennium. The return of Christ occurs at the 6000 year mark. We are swiftly approaching that time today. Looking at earliest and latest possible dates to complete 6000 years from all dating method gives us a time between 2018 and 2070.

(Mat 24:22 NIV)  If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.

That doesn’t mean that Christ couldn’t return before 2018 though, because he said “except those days be shortened, no flesh would be saved.” He could come shortly before the 6000 years were completed and then have the 1000 years of peace and release Satan from his prison at the end of the millennium for whatever amount of time was not used up from the first 6000 years. So don’t relax and be lazy concerning your duties to the Lord, thinking that he won’t be coming for a long time yet. It can happen very swiftly.

(Mat 24:36-39 NIV)  "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

(Mat 24:40-44 NIV)  Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

(Luke 17:37 NCV)  The followers asked Jesus, "Where will this be, Lord?" Jesus answered, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."

(Rev 19:17-18 NCV)  Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he called with a loud voice to all the birds flying in the sky: "Come and gather together for the great feast of God so that you can eat the bodies of kings, generals, mighty people, horses and their riders, and the bodies of all people--free, slave, small, and great."

Some will be taken in the rapture and others will be take to the winepress of God’s wrath, to Armageddon be killed, and that is where the vultures will gather.

(Mat 24:45-51 NIV)  "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.


(Dan 12:8-10 NCV)  I heard the answer, but I did not really understand, so I asked, "Master, what will happen after all these things come true?" He answered, "Go your way, Daniel. The message is closed up and sealed until the time of the end. Many people will be made clean, pure, and spotless, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. Those wicked people will not understand these things, but the wise will understand them.

The vision was sealed until God began giving understanding to the great bible teachers of the 1900’s, men like Scofield, Moody and Torrey. To these great men and many more God opened up their minds to understand and begin preaching about the things that were sealed. As time goes on and we gets closer to the end God continues to give us more and more details of how it will all transpire.


In the “Days of Noah” God gave the people 120 years to repent while Noah built the ark. Could it be that God is giving us 120 years to repent from the time he unsealed the vision of Daniel in the 1900’s? No one know for sure but it is very possible. God has repeatedly compared the time of the end to the "days of Noah." In Noah's time, God granted 120 years for Noah to build the ark and preach to the people that the destruction of the earth by water was imminent. God, in the bible, uses the same numerical patterns over and over again to signify certain themes. Therefore, it seems likely that mankind will receive 120 years of warning before the return of Jesus Christ. We may already be more that 100 years into that time of warning.

Genesis 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years."

1 Peter 3:20 "God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,"

2 Peter 2:5 "if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of `righteousness, and seven others;"

Notice, in the verses above, that God spared eight people from the flood, eight being his number for new beginnings. In the book of Jasher the 120 year time period allowed for repentance is explained even more clearly.

Jasher 5:8 & 11 "For thus saith the Lord, behold I give you a period of one hundred and twenty years; if you will turn to me and forsake your evil ways, then I will also turn away from the evil which I told you, and it shall not exist, saith the Lord. And the Lord granted them a period of one hundred and twenty years, saying, if they will return, then will God repent of the evil, so as not to destroy the earth."

Another indicator that God is giving us a special time period for repentance is the fact that the Pentecostal revival movement began in the early 1900's. God always sends preachers giving warning before judgment comes. The great bible teachers of the 1900’s explained the end times prophecy scriptures to us and the Pentecostal movement put an exclamation point on it showing us that the Holy Spirit was being poured out in the latter days. We have two witnesses of the nearness of the end times, prophecy unveiled and the outpouring of the latter rain of the Holy Spirit.

But it was the revival which began in Azusa Street, Los Angeles, in 1906, that was the launching pad of twentieth century Pentecostalism.  For three years, many hundreds of Christians from all over North America, and then from Europe and the third world, visited Azusa Street and took its message back with them. The fire spread quite rapidly, resulting in the formation of many new churches. "In the seventy years since Azusa Street, (In 1976) Pentecostalism has spread throughout the world."

In 1906, the modern day Pentecostal revival movement was born. If God is giving us 120 years to repent, as he did for the people of Noah's day then we can add 120 years to 1906 we come up with the year 2026. God has not promised us that we could know the day or the hour of his return, but it is clear that we are approaching the season.


The prophet Daniel along with John clearly saw the first beast, the one that represents Antichrist and his kingdom. Daniel saw beasts and visions that portrayed kingdoms and nations, not religious movements. Daniel did not prophesy about the 2nd beast, the one that represents the False Prophet and false religion.

(Revelation 13:11-13 NIV) Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon. He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men.

The first beast, the beast from the sea represents the Antichrist, and the second beast, the beast from the earth represents the False Prophet. This beast looked like a lamb at first glance but upon close examination to it’s message it spoke like a dragon, the devil.


We will have to turn to the old testament and also look at some apocryphal literature to find the basis for using the two beasts as symbols in the book of Revelation. 

On the fifth day of creation God created the creatures that live in the water and those that fly above the earth. This was one day before he created mankind, on the sixth day. According to the 2nd book of Ezra (Ezdras) from the Greek Orthodox bible, God created two special creatures on the fifth day.

(2: Esdras 6:47-52 NRSV) “On the fifth day you commanded the seventh part, where the water had been gathered together, to bring forth living creatures, birds, and fishes; and so it was done. The dumb and lifeless water produced living creatures, as it was commanded, so that therefore the nations might declare your wondrous works. “Then you kept in existence two living creatures; the one you called Behemoth and the name of the other Leviathan. And you separated one from the other, for the seventh part where the water had been gathered together could not hold them both. And you gave Behemoth one of the parts that had been dried up on the third day, to live in it, where there are a thousand mountains; but to Leviathan you gave the seventh part, the watery part; and you have kept them to be eaten by whom you wish, and when you wish.

According to Enoch, Leviathan, the beast from the ocean is a female creature, while the Behemoth, the creature that lives on land is male. It seems strange that the creature that portrays Antichrist would be female and the one who portrays the False Prophet would be male. I say it is strange because false religion is usually portrayed in scripture as a harlot or referred to as Jezebel, the evil wife of king Ahab. It would seem also that the Antichrist would better be represented by a male creature since he will be a man. For now we can only wonder, in time we will know the reason why.

1 Enoch 60:7-11  And on that day were two monsters parted, a female monster named Leviathan, to dwell in the abysses of the ocean over the fountains of the waters. But the male is named Behemoth, who occupied with his breast a waste wilderness named Duidain, on the east of the garden of Eden where the elect and righteous dwell, where my grandfather was taken up, the seventh from Adam, the first man whom the Lord of Spirits created. And I besought the other angel that he should show me the might of those monsters, how they were parted on one day and cast, the one into the abysses of the sea, and the other unto the dry land of the wilderness. And he said to me: ' Thou son of man, herein thou dost seek to know what is hidden.'


The leviathan is mentioned in the book of Psalms and there is a long description of it in the book of Job.

Psalms 104:25-26 There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number--living things both large and small. There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.

God who knows the beginning from the end created the Leviathan to symbolize Antichrists kingdom before it was even a thought in Satan’s mind. The Leviathan really is a creature that exists. It may be dormant at the present time but like a volcano that has been quiet for a thousand years, it is ready to erupt when roused.

(Job 41:1-34 NCV)  "Can you catch the leviathan on a fishhook or tie its tongue down with a rope? Can you put a cord through its nose or a hook in its jaw? Will it keep begging you for mercy and speak to you with gentle words? Will it make an agreement with you and let you take it as your slave for life? Can you make a pet of the leviathan as you would a bird or put it on a leash for your girls? Will traders try to bargain with you for it? Will they divide it up among the merchants? Can you stick darts all over its skin or fill its head with fishing spears? If you put one hand on it, you will never forget the battle, and you will never do it again! There is no hope of defeating it; just seeing it overwhelms people. No one is brave enough to make it angry, so who would be able to stand up against me? No one has ever given me anything that I must pay back, because everything under the sky belongs to me. "I will speak about Leviathan's arms and legs, its great strength and well-formed body. No one can tear off its outer hide or poke through its double armor. No one can force open its great jaws; they are filled with frightening teeth. It has rows of shields on its back that are tightly sealed together. Each shield is so close to the next one that no air can go between them. They are joined strongly to one another; they hold on to each other and cannot be separated. When it snorts, flashes of light are thrown out, and its eyes look like the light at dawn. Flames blaze from its mouth; sparks of fire shoot out. Smoke pours out of its nose, as if coming from a large pot over a hot fire. Its breath sets coals on fire, and flames come out of its mouth. There is great strength in its neck. People are afraid and run away. The folds of its skin are tightly joined; they are set and cannot be moved. Its chest is as hard as a rock, even as hard as a grinding stone. The powerful fear its terrible looks and draw back in fear as it moves. The sword that hits it does not hurt it, nor the arrows, darts, and spears. It treats iron as if it were straw and bronze metal as if it were rotten wood. It does not run away from arrows; stones from slings are like chaff to it. Clubs feel like pieces of straw to it, and it laughs when they shake a spear at it. The underside of its body is like broken pieces of pottery. It leaves a trail in the mud like a threshing board. It makes the deep sea bubble like a boiling pot; it stirs up the sea like a pot of oil. When it swims, it leaves a shining path in the water that makes the sea look as if it had white hair. Nothing else on earth is equal to it; it is a creature without fear. It looks down on all those who are too proud; it is king over all proud creatures."

In the verses above we see that the sword has no effect on this creature. This is a reference to antichrist being wounded with a sword but he will appear to rise from the dead also notice that he is the king over all who are proud. Pride and boasting are Satan's characteristics, and they will also be the traits of antichrist and his supporters.


LEVIATHAN (Lih vi' uh thuhn) name of an ancient sea creature subdued by God meaning "coiled one." Leviathan appears in biblical and extra-biblical literature. A serpentine form is indicated in Isaiah 27:1 ("leviathan the piercing [KJV] serpent"). The sea creature is used interchangeably with other mysterious creations of the divine. Again, Isaiah 27:1 refers to leviathan as "the dragon that is in the sea." The psalmist in 74:14 presents leviathan among the supernatural enemies of God dwelling in the sea with many heads. Job 3:8; 41:1-9 present the sea creature as too formidable a foe for a person to consider arousing. Yet, leviathan was created by God and subject to Him (Ps. 104:24-30).

Apocalyptic literature depicts leviathan as throwing off his fetters at the end of the present age, only to be defeated in a final conflict with the divine. A cylinder seal found at Tel Asmar dated about 2350 B.C. shows two men fighting a seven-headed serpent. Leviathan was seen in ancient legend as a sea monster engaged in primordial warfare with the gods. This creature represented chaos in a personified manner which any creator deity had to overcome in order to create. Leviathan was also seen as a threat to the orderliness of the universe and ultimately to be subdued at the end of time. Scripture used the name known to so many people and removed fear connected with it, showing God easily controlled Leviathan, who thus offered no threat to God's people. Leviathan: A great red fire breathing dragon that lives in the sea. Created by God on the fifth day. Has not been seen in thousands of years, but may appear again in the last days. May now be in hibernation. Leviathan represents Satan, who is also called the dragon. In the end times terminology in the book of Revelation the dragon with seven heads and ten horns represents 7 kingdoms, with 10 kings, riding upon Satan. That means that the power of these kingdoms comes from the evil one. It is the kingdom of Antichrist. It has 7 heads because it will most likely comprise the land area of Israel and kingdoms in the bible that persecuted Israel. The Antichrists kingdom should consist of the land areas that Egypt, Israel, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and the Roman Empire controlled at the height of their power.

The unholy political union will begin with ten kings ruling over the land area of the kingdom under Antichrist. But, some will disagree with Antichrist’s program and he will make war on them and uproot three kings. It is not clear whether he will appoint three other kings in their place or divide the land areas they controlled between the seven other kings. The antichrists kingdom is the eighth kingdom and is separate from the seven but includes them.

Do not be surprised if Leviathan is both an actual creature and symbolism for Antichrists kingdom. God will not leave his people in the dark or let any of his children accidentally worship the Antichrist. It is highly likely that an actual creature fitting the description of leviathan will be discovered in the end times, just as Antichrist is coming into his kingdom. This will be the warning for the saved that the person coming to power is Antichrist, not Jesus Christ.


Job 40:15-19 "Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron. He ranks first among the works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword.

(Cambridge Annotated Study Bible Notes on 2 Esdras 6:38-54)  God’s Work in Creation. 1 Enoch 18:1-12 pictures a pit to hold the waters beneath the seven mountains which are the pillars of the universe. The stars serve humanity and the waters produce living creatures. The fantastic beasts Behemoth and Leviathan represent the powers of evil. Leviathan lives in the sea, which represents the powers hostile to the creative purpose of God. Both will be destroyed by God’s chosen agents.

Behemoth is a large creature, sometimes compared to a giant prehistoric hippopotamus. Behemoth represents the world religious system that will support Antichrist in his quest to be worshipped and the False Prophet who will be the leader of that system. Behemoth sounds something like a giant hippopotamus or perhaps even a dinosaur like tyrannosaurus rex. We don’t know exactly what behemoth looks like but it is a obviously a large and strong creature. The end times religion of the False Prophet will also be large and strong, world wide in scope and capable of persecuting all who refuse to join it.


Leviathan may be in hibernation on the bottom of the ocean somewhere in the world. He has probably been sleeping since Jesus defeated the old dragon, Satan at the cross on Calvary. Leviathan has been hibernating for almost two thousand years but when he wakes up it will be a sign to the world that the end times are near. God never leaves his people without a witness or a warning. It is not the sea monster Leviathan that is the threat, but Antichrist. The discovery of the great sea monster Leviathan will be a warning to God’s people and to the world that Antichrist is about to or has already appeared on the world scene.

(Job 3:8 NCV)  Let those who curse days curse that day. Let them prepare to wake up the sea monster Leviathan.

Job indicates that there are people who are ready to rouse leviathan. These are the people whom Satan has deceived into desiring a one world government and a one world religion. Humanly speaking, it is a great idea. Before I was a Christian I would have been 100% for it myself. If everyone were under the banner of one government and we could all agree on the basic tenets of some religion and end all war, what a wonderful world it would be, right? Well, yes, it would be and will be a wonderful day when that happens and it will happen under the rule of Jesus Christ when it is based on truth.

The reason Satan’s plan one world government and one world religion can’t work is because it is based on a lie, the lie being that he (Satan) is the all powerful god who can make everything perfect. Satan wants the glory and the praise but he does not have the power to bring his program to pass, so it will end in dismal failure and destruction. Even if he did have the power he could not be trusted to use it wisely for the benefit of humans because he hates all of mankind, even his own followers, because God is taking away Satan’s dominion of earth and giving it to us. Those who follow Satan just do not realize that he hates them as much as he hates Christians and Jews, just because of the fact that they are human beings. After using them for his own purposes he is happy to see them destroyed and on their way to the lake of fire.

The story is told about a woman who found an injured poisonous snake and had compassion on it and took it in and nursed it back to health. When the snake was well and ready to return to the wilds it bit the woman, injected her with venom and she lay there dying. As she lay there suffering and near death she said to the snake, “how could you do this to me, I helped you, you were badly injured and I nursed you back to health. Why have you taken my life? The serpents reply was “you knew I was a snake when you helped me.” 

This story illustrated the mindset of the devil. If you are involved in sorcery, goddess worship, the occult, or any other false religion, don’t expect Satan to be any more merciful to you than the snake was to the woman. Satan loves to see people reject God and consign themselves to hell, because misery loves company, and since he will be cast into the lake of fire forever he wants to take as many people as possible with him.

If Satan had even the slightest iota of good in him he would have an attitude like the rich man had for his brothers when he found himself in hell.

(Luke 16:19-31 NIV)  "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.' "But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.' "He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.' "Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.' "'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' "He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'"

But, Satan is totally evil through and through and has no compassion for any being, not his angels, not the demons, and certainly not humans whom he hates with a passion.


(Psa 74:12-14 NIV)  But you, O God, are my king from of old; you bring salvation upon the earth. It was you who split open the sea by your power; you broke the heads of the monster in the waters. It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave him as food to the creatures of the desert.

Isaiah 26:21 & 27:1 See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer. In that day, the LORD will punish with his sword, his fierce, great and powerful sword, Leviathan the gliding serpent, Leviathan the coiling serpent; he will slay the monster of the sea.

The Lord will slay leviathan, the monster from the sea. He will defeat the Antichrist and his armies at Armageddon, and give their dead bodies as food to the animals, birds and insects. According to the apocryphal book of Baruch (Baruch was Jeremiah's scribes name) there will also be an actual leviathan and behemoth that the Lord will slay and give for food to those who are left alive on the earth when he returns.

2 Baruch 29:3-4 And it will happen that when all that which should come to pass has been accomplished, the Messiah will begin to be revealed. And Behemoth will reveal itself from its place, and Leviathan will come from the sea, the two great monsters which I have created on the fifth day of creation and which I have kept until that time. And they will be nourishment for all who are left.


Someday every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, including Satan, Antichrist, The False Prophet, and even leviathan.

(Psa 148:7 DAR)  Praise the LORD from the earth, you sea monsters and all deeps:

One reason for studying these strange creatures is to show where the symbolism in the book of Revelation for the Antichrist and the False Prophet are derived from. A second reason is to alert those who are watching for the return of Jesus Christ that these monsters could still exist, and if they are discovered it may be a sign from God to his people that the Antichrist and the False Prophet are about to appear on the world scene.

No creature that we know of today even faintly resembles the monster of the sea named leviathan. However, that does not mean that it does not exist or that it will not exist. The leviathan could be in hibernation in the depths of the ocean or perhaps modern science will someday recreate one with modern cloning techniques or some other method. In any event, if we should see a creature matching the description of leviathan appear on the world scene, we will know that the person leviathan represents, the Antichrist, is also ready to take the world stage. This will be a warning from Jesus to his people to set their lives in order because the time is short before his return.


Even the current pope John Paul II seems ready to rouse leviathan. He may not realize it because for the most part the Roman Catholic Church doesn’t include in their doctrine a literal interpretation of unfulfilled prophecy, although some individuals and priests do.

VATICAN CITY - Pope John Paul II marked the new year yesterday with a renewed call for peace in the Middle East and Africa and the creation of a new world order based on respect for the dignity of man and equality among nations. John Paul presided over a morning Mass inside St. Peter's Basilica to mark the World Day of Peace, which the Roman Catholic Church celebrates every Jan. 1. He appeared in good form, delivering his entire homily in a strong and clear voice despite a relatively tiring holiday schedule.

This year, John Paul directed his thoughts to continuing conflicts around the globe. But he stressed that to bring about peace, there needs to be a new respect for international law and the creation of a "new international order" based on the goals of the United Nations. He called for "an order that is able to give adequate solutions to today's problems based on the dignity of the human being, on an integral development of society, on solidarity among nations rich and poor, on the sharing of resources and the extraordinary results of scientific and technical progress."

The Pope lamented continuing violence between Israel and the Palestinians, and also offered his prayers for his ambassador to Burundi, Archbishop Michael Courtney, who was gunned down by assailants this week as he returned from a funeral. The pontiff said Archbishop Courtney was killed "while he carried out his mission in favor of dialogue and reconciliation" in the central African country, which has been wracked by violence for a decade.

He said a new respect for international law was the only way to achieve peace and guarantee against the arbitrary use of force. He did not mention the United States by name, but his message appeared aimed at the U.S. anti-terrorism campaign -- and in particular at Washington's pre-emptive war in Iraq. John Paul was a vocal critic of the Iraq war, dispatching envoys to Washington and Baghdad to try to prevent hostilities from breaking out and exhorting world leaders that war wasn't inevitable and was "always a defeat for humanity." "Because peace is possible ... it is necessary," he said during his homily yesterday.

The New Year's Mass was the last major celebration of the Christmas season for John Paul, who is 83 and suffers from Parkinson's disease, which makes it difficult for him to speak. He also has knee and hip ailments that make it almost impossible for him to walk or stand.

Because for the most part the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church and most of the liturgical denominational churches do not study prophecy with a literal mindset, they may be deceived when the Antichrist comes upon the scene and embrace his call for a one world government and a one world religion. Check out your pastor or denomination and make sure they do not support such an agenda. If they do you would be well advised to find a new church.


There exists an ancient set of prophecies that date from 1000 A.D. known as “The Prophecies of St. Malachy.” In these Malachy, an Irish preist claims to have had a vision giving short descriptions of every pope, 112 of them, who would hold that office until the return of Christ. The current pope, John Paul II is number 110.

Prophecies of St. Malachy Concerning the Popes
The most famous and best known prophecies about the popes are those attributed to Saint Malachy. In 1139 he went to Rome to give an account of the affairs of his diocese to the pope, Innocent II, who promised him two palliums for the metropolitan Sees of Armagh and Cashel. While at Rome, he received the strange vision of the future wherein was unfolded before his mind the long list of illustrious pontiffs who were to rule the Church until the end of time. The same author tells us the Saint Malachy gave his MS. to Innocent II to console him in the midst of his tribulations.

These short prophetical announcements in number 112, indicate some noticeable trait of all the future popes from Celestine II, who was elected in the year 1130, until the end of the world.

The latter of these prophecies concerns the end of the world as is as follows, " In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, (Petrus Romanus) who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End.", So Ends the Treatise

According to St Malachy's list, Pope John Paul II is the third to the last pope. He is referred to as "ab labore solis", from the labor of the sun. Therefore, the remaining popes are:

ab labore solis (current Pope, John Paul II)
gloria olivae (second to last pope)
petrus romanus (Peter the Roman would be the last pope)

The interesting thing is this. I have heard from rumor that one French Bishop or Cardinal that is likely to be considered as next pope is from Jewish descent. If that is the case, and if he is elected, he would fit into Gloria Olivae perfectly. Look at Paul's Letter to the Romans, Chapter 11:17-24. Paul describes God's possessors of the Covenant, Abraham's descendants, as a cultivated olive tree. Gentile Christians are the wild olive branch from a wild olive tree, that has been grafted onto the original cultivated olive tree. Neither one, either Jew or Gentile, is considered better than the other, since Paul says neither group supports the roots. Regardless, if the Holy Father passes away and this French Cardinal or Bishop begins his reign, then I believe we must look twice at St. Malachy's prophecies.  From the Prophecy Truths Website

According to St. Malachy’s prophecies the pope following John Paul II will be known as “The Glory of the Olive.” This could mean that the next pope will be Jewish or that under his reign the churches will be united and form the Laodicean church, or it could mean that the Antichrist will come to power bring a false peace, or it could mean something else.

After the pope called “The Glory of The Olive,” comes the last pope, in whose time Rome will be destroyed and Christ will return. His name, according to Malachy, will be Peter the Roman. It is prophesied that this pope will walk through the ruins of Rome weeping due to the destruction of what has become known as “The Eternal City.”

While no one knows if Malachy’s vision was from God or from some other source, it is interesting to watch and see what will happen next, because it appears that the current pope is nearing the end of his life and it won’t be long before we can find out if St. Malachy’s prophecies will come true or not.
