The Antichrist came to power and deceived the world, implemented his peace and prosperity plan, and persecuted the Jews and the Christians. Then Gods two witnesses come upon the scene. These have the power to stop the rain for 3 1/2 years and call down fire from heaven upon their enemies as often as they desire. The two witnesses will be the executors of most of the trumpet judgments.

The time of their ministry will be the last chance to receive Christ before the rapture. When they finish their ministry they will be killed and the first resurrection will take place shortly thereafter. Anyone who doesn’t receive Christ as Lord and Savior before the rapture will have to endure the “Wrath of God” that will be poured out upon the earth immediately afterwards.


(Rev 8:2-5 NCV)  And I saw the seven angels who stand before God and to whom were given seven trumpets. Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden pan for incense. He was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all God's holy people. The angel put this offering on the golden altar before the throne. The smoke from the incense went up from the angel's hand to God with the prayers of God's people. Then the angel filled the incense pan with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth, and there were flashes of lightning, thunder and loud noises, and an earthquake.


(Rev 8:6 NCV)  Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.


(Rev 8:7 NCV)  The first angel blew his trumpet, and hail and fire mixed with blood were poured down on the earth. And a third of the earth, and all the green grass, and a third of the trees were burned up.


(Rev 8:8-9 NCV)  Then the second angel blew his trumpet, and something that looked like a big mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea. And a third of the sea became blood, a third of the living things in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.


(Rev 8:10-11 NCV)  Then the third angel blew his trumpet, and a large star, burning like a torch, fell from the sky. It fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. And a third of all the water became bitter, and many people died from drinking the water that was bitter.


(Rev 8:12 NCV)  Then the fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars were struck. So a third of them became dark, and a third of the day was without light, and also the night.


(Rev 8:13 NCV)  While I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying high in the air cry out in a loud voice, "Trouble! Trouble! Trouble for those who live on the earth because of the remaining sounds of the trumpets that the other three angels are about to blow!"


(Rev 9:1-5 NCV)  Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fall from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the deep hole that leads to the bottomless pit. Then it opened up the hole that leads to the bottomless pit, and smoke came up from the hole like smoke from a big furnace. Then the sun and sky became dark because of the smoke from the hole. Then locusts came down to the earth out of the smoke, and they were given the power to sting like scorpions. They were told not to harm the grass on the earth or any plant or tree. They could harm only the people who did not have the sign of God on their foreheads.


Notice that these locusts could not harm anyone with the sign of God upon them. The 144,000 and the saints cannot be injured by this plague. This is the first judgment in Revelation where a distinction is made between the righteous and the wicked, fulfilling end times prophecy from the book of Malachi.

(Mal 3:17-18 NIV) "They will be mine," says the LORD Almighty, "in the day when I make up my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not.

When the Lord says “again” you will see a distinction between the righteous and the wicked he is referring to the distinction he made between the Israelites and the Egyptians during the exodus,

(Exo 8:23-24 NIV)  I will make a distinction between my people and your people. This miraculous sign will occur tomorrow.'" And the LORD did this. Dense swarms of flies poured into Pharaoh's palace and into the houses of his officials, and throughout Egypt the land was ruined by the flies.

(Exo 11:7 NIV)  But among the Israelites not a dog will bark at any man or animal.' Then you will know that the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.

The prophet Malachi is truly talking about the end times and the tribulation period when he speaks of God once again making a distinction between the righteous and the wicked. We can be sure of this because of the verses that immediately follow.

(Mal 4:1-3 NIV)  "Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire," says the LORD Almighty. "Not a root or a branch will be left to them. But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall. Then you will trample down the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I do these things," says the LORD Almighty.


(Rev 9:5-11 NCV) These locusts were not given the power to kill anyone, but to cause pain to the people for five months. And the pain they felt was like the pain a scorpion gives when it stings someone. During those days people will look for a way to die, but they will not find it. They will want to die, but death will run away from them. The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore what looked like crowns of gold, and their faces looked like human faces. Their hair was like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. Their chests looked like iron breastplates, and the sound of their wings was like the noise of many horses and chariots hurrying into battle. The locusts had tails with stingers like scorpions, and in their tails was their power to hurt people for five months. The locusts had a king who was the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in the Hebrew language is Abaddon and in the Greek language is Apollyon.

Remember we (the Christians) have nothing to fear from this plague. It cannot touch us because of God’s protection.


(Rev 9:12 NCV)  The first trouble is past; there are still two other troubles that will come.


(Rev 9:13-15 NCV) Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the horns on the golden altar that is before God. The voice said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Free the four angels who are tied at the great river Euphrates." And they let loose the four angels who had been kept ready for this hour and day and month and year so they could kill a third of all people on the earth.

Early on in our study of angels we read about angels that have been imprisoned since either shortly before or shortly after the flood. Jude recorded that the angels who sinned by having relationships with human women were imprisoned so it could not happen again and Peter also comments about it. Whether it is some of these angels who are released or some other angels who committed another type of grievous sin we don’t know. What is sure is that these angels have been imprisoned for a long time and are ready to go out and cause as much destruction as they can in the short time allotted to them.

(Jude 1:6 NIV)  And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home--these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.

(2 Pet 2:4 NIV)  For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;


(Rev 9:16-19 NCV)  I heard how many troops on horses were in their army--two hundred million. The horses and their riders I saw in the vision looked like this: They had breastplates that were fiery red, dark blue, and yellow like sulfur. The heads of the horses looked like heads of lions, with fire, smoke, and sulfur coming out of their mouths. A third of all the people on earth were killed by these three terrible disasters coming out of the horses' mouths: the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur. The horses' power was in their mouths and in their tails; their tails were like snakes with heads, and with them they hurt people.

Speculation has it that the 200 million man army will come from China, because they have about 1.2 billion people there now and could have 2 billion by the time this takes place. It is not absolutely certain that the 200 million man army will be Chinese, but it is something to watch for and see how this is fulfilled.


(Rev 9:20-21 NCV)  The other people who were not killed by these terrible disasters still did not change their hearts and turn away from what they had made with their own hands. They did not stop worshiping demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood--things that cannot see or hear or walk. These people did not change their hearts and turn away from murder or evil magic, from their sexual sins or stealing.

The people of the earth continue on worshipping demons, and idols. They continue to murder their neighbors and practice sorcery and sexual deviation. Nothing much has changed since God created mankind on the earth. Satan still entices people with the same old temptations and deceives many of them. Why should he change his tactics when his old methods work so well?


(Rev 10:1-6 NCV)  Then I saw another powerful angel coming down from heaven dressed in a cloud with a rainbow over his head. His face was like the sun, and his legs were like pillars of fire. The angel was holding a small scroll open in his hand. He put his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land. Then he shouted loudly like the roaring of a lion. And when he shouted, the voices of seven thunders spoke. When the seven thunders spoke, I started to write. But I heard a voice from heaven say, "Keep hidden what the seven thunders said, and do not write them down." Then the angel I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven, and he made a promise by the power of the One who lives forever and ever. He is the One who made the skies and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it. The angel promised, "There will be no more waiting!

The time has come for the “Day of the Lord” to begin. The Day of the Lord begins with joyous message that the prophets preached, that God would redeem his people and raise them to from the dead to live again with him in his kingdom.

(Rev 10:7 NIV)  But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets."

Paul explained the mystery, that God would raise the dead at the sounding of the last trumpet, the seventh trumpet in this series of trumpets sounded by angels.

(1 Cor 15:51-53 NIV)  Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed--in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.

The saints will be raptured before the wrath of God is poured out on an unbelieving world. Hallelujah, praise His holy name for his mercy in delivering his people from the earth before the seven bowls of his wrath are poured out upon the earth.


(Rev 10:8-10 NCV)  Then I heard the same voice from heaven again, saying to me: "Go and take the open scroll that is in the hand of the angel that is standing on the sea and on the land." So I went to the angel and told him to give me the small scroll. And he said to me, "Take the scroll and eat it. It will be sour in your stomach, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey." So I took the small scroll from the angel's hand and ate it. In my mouth it tasted sweet as honey, but after I ate it, it was sour in my stomach.

The scroll contains the prophecies concerning the wrath of God being poured out upon the earth. It is both bitter and sweet to John. Sweet because finally the saints will receive all that God has promised them but bitter because of the wrath that will be poured out upon the earth. There will be great joy for those who meet Christ in the air to attend the marriage supper of the Lamb, but if there is any sadness in heaven it will be for unsaved friends and loved ones who will be left behind. We need to do all we can to reach them now while there is still time.


(Rev 10:11 NCV)  Then I was told, "You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages, and kings."

The book of Revelation ceases it’s chronological account here temporarily. Before the seven last plagues are poured out, the wrath of God, John is give details and background material concerning the things that were already stated. This is similar to the account in Genesis where God beginning in Genesis 1:26 tells a brief history of the creation of man and then later in Genesis 2:21 he gives the details of the creation of man and woman.

Remember as we read the material from Revelation chapter eleven until the seven bowls begin to be poured out that this is more information about what we have already studied.


(Rev 11:1-2 NCV)  I was given a measuring stick like a rod, and I was told, "Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the people worshiping there. But do not measure the yard outside the temple. Leave it alone, because it has been given to those who are not God's people. And they will trample on the holy city for forty-two months.

At some time during or before the Antichrist’s reign a temple was rebuilt in Jerusalem. This is necessary because there must be a temple to enable Antichrist to commit the “Abomination of Desolation.”


(Rev 11:3-6 NCV)  And I will give power to my two witnesses to prophesy for one thousand two hundred sixty days, and they will be dressed in rough cloth to show their sadness." These two witnesses are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth. And if anyone tries to hurt them, fire comes from their mouths and kills their enemies. And if anyone tries to hurt them in whatever way, in that same way that person will die. These witnesses have the power to stop the sky from raining during the time they are prophesying. And they have power to make the waters become blood, and they have power to send every kind of trouble to the earth as many times as they want.

The two witnesses, who are most likely to be the two men who have never died, Enoch and Elijah, are the ones who stopped the rain, called down fire and hail from heaven, and made the waters become like blood during the trumpet judgments. They will have the power to send every type of trouble to earth as often as they desire.


New Testament Apocryphal literature consists of things that were written early in the history of the church age but were not directly inspired by the Holy Spirit. They are similar to commentaries or notes in the bible that are used today. They were the opinions of people who studied the scriptures at that time. They are not the infallible Word of God. But, what they do is show us the opinions concerning the end times of people who lived much closer to the time of the original Apostles than we do and may reflect what was believed and taught in the first 300 years of the church.

Enoch and Elias shall be sent to teach them that this is the deceiver which must come into the world and do signs and wonders to deceive. And therefore shall they that die by his hand be martyrs, and shall be reckoned among the good and righteous martyrs who have pleased God in their life.

And then I shall send forth Enoch and Elias to convict him; and they shall show him to be a liar and a deceiver; and he shall kill them at the altar, as said the prophet,

 "And Satan said: Look carefully at who it is that is coming down, for it is Elijah, or Enoch, or one of the prophets that this man seems to be.  But he answered and said: Not yet are the six thousand years accomplished, for the sum of the number is in my hands."

From The Gospel of Nicodemus 20:1-4
"Then the Lord after his resurrection, delivered the saints to Michael the archangel; and he led them into paradise. And two very ancient men met them and were asked by the saints, who are you, who have not been with us in Sheol, and have had your bodies placed in Paradise? One of them answering said, I am Enoch, who was translated by the word of God: and this man who is with me, is Elijah the Tishbite, who was translated in a fiery chariot. Here we have been, and have not tasted death, but we are now about to return at the coming of Antichrist, being armed with divine signs and miracles, to engage with him in battle, and to be slain by him at Jerusalem, and to be taken up alive again into the clouds, after three days and a half."


(Rev 11:7-10 NCV)  When the two witnesses have finished telling their message, the beast that comes up from the bottomless pit will fight a war against them. He will defeat them and kill them. The bodies of the two witnesses will lie in the street of the great city where the Lord was killed. This city is named Sodom and Egypt, which has a spiritual meaning. Those from every race of people, tribe, language, and nation will look at the bodies of the two witnesses for three and one-half days, and they will refuse to bury them. People who live on the earth will rejoice and be happy because these two are dead. They will send each other gifts, because these two prophets brought much suffering to those who live on the earth.


(Rev 11:11-12 NCV)  But after three and one-half days, God put the breath of life into the two prophets again. They stood on their feet, and everyone who saw them became very afraid. Then the two prophets heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Come up here!" And they went up into heaven in a cloud as their enemies watched.


Even though the two witnesses are a part of the saved of all ages and will go up to celebrate the marriage supper of the Lamb with the saints, we still will not know the day or hour of the rapture.

(Mat 19:30 KJV)  But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

We don’t know if they are the first ones to go up and then we follow or vice versa. According to the scripture in Matthew 19:30 the last ones killed may be the first to go up to heaven but that is not at all certain. The verse in Matthew may not have anything at all to do with the resurrection.

(1 Th 4:15-17 NCV)  What we tell you now is the Lord's own message. We who are living when the Lord comes again will not go before those who have already died. The Lord himself will come down from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. And those who have died believing in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive will be gathered up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And we will be with the Lord forever.

Paul indicates that we who are alive and remain after the first two sets of judgments will go up when the seventh trumpet sounds, after the dead go up, but we don’t know how long after or the order of the resurrection of the dead. Will Adam be the first one raised because he was the first one created?, or will Abel be the first one raised because he was the first righteous person to die? Or as stated earlier, will it be reversed? Will Enoch and Elijah go first and then all the dead in reverse order and then the living? We don’t know. Even when Enoch and Elijah are lying dead in the streets of Jerusalem we will still not be able to pinpoint the day and the hour of the rapture or of Christ’s return to earth with us, his saints and his angels.

According to one ancient document there will be a short delay of an unknown amount of time between the raising of the two witnesses and the catching away of the living believers. This opinion may have come about because of the time of silence in heaven, the temporary respite between the trumpet judgments and the pouring out of the wrath of God. It may be during this time that the dead and the living are being caught up to heaven to forever be with the Lord.

Also, we will see that the sounding of the seventh trumpet does not occur in Revelation until shortly after the two witnesses go up. While we will never know the day or hour of his coming for us we will know when it is very near, even at the door.

(Mat 24:33 KJV)  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

When these things happen we need to look up for as the scripture says, our redemption draweth nigh.


The Epistle of Barnabus
Barnabus 16:1-8  Watch for your life's sake. Let not your lamps be quenched, nor your loins unloosed; but be ye ready, for ye know not the hour in which our Lord cometh. But often shall ye come together, seeking the things which are befitting to your souls: for the whole time of your faith will not profit you, if ye be not made perfect in the last time. For in the last days false prophets and corrupters shall be multiplied, and the sheep shall be turned into wolves, and love  shall be turned into hate; for when lawlessness increaseth, they shall hate and persecute and betray one another, and then shall appear the world-deceiver as Son of God, and shall do signs and wonders, and the earth shall be delivered into his hands, and he shall do iniquitous things which have never yet come to pass since   the beginning. Then shall the creation of men come into the fire of trial, and many shall be made to stumble and shall perish; but they that endure in their faith shall be saved from under the curse itself. And then shall appear the signs of the truth;first, the sign of an out-spreading in heaven; then the sign of the sound of the trumpet; and the third, the resurrection of the dead; yet not of all, but as it is  said: The Lord shall come and all His saints with Him . Then shall the world see the Lord coming upon the clouds of heaven.

Notice that in the paragraph above, Barnabus believed that the rapture definitely took place after the Antichrist had come to power, just as Paul had said in Thessalonians when he said the rapture could not happen until Antichrist was on the world scene. While Barnabus's book was not included in the bible because it is more of a commentary on Paul's theology rather than an inspired work. Even so, Barnabus, having traveled extensively with Paul he should be a reliable source of explaining exactly what Paul's eschatology scenario consisted of, since they spens so much time traveling and preaching together.

And I heard a voice saying to me: Hear, righteous John. Then will I send forth mine angels, and they shall take the ram's horns that lie upon the cloud; and Michael and Gabriel shall go forth out of the heaven and sound with those horns, as the prophet David foretold, With the voice of a trumpet of horn.  And the voice of the trumpet shall be heard from the one quarter of the world to the other; and from the voice of that trumpet all the earth shall be shaken, as the prophet foretold, And at the voice of the bird every plant shall arise; that is, at the voice of the archangel all the human race shall arise. And again I said: Lord, those who are dead from Adam even to this day, and who dwell in Hades from the beginning of the world, and who die at the last ages, what like shall they arise? And I heard a voice saying to me: Hear, righteous John. All the human race shall arise thirty years old.

And again I said: Lord, they die male and female, and some old, and some young, and some infants. In the resurrection what like shall they arise? And I heard a voice saying to me: Hear, righteous John. Just as the bees are, and differ not one from another, but are all of one appearance and one size, so also shall every man be in the resurrection. There is neither fair, nor ruddy, nor black, neither Ethiopian nor different countenances; but they shall all arise of one appearance and one stature. All the human race shall arise without bodies, as I told you that in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the  angels of God.

And then shall be lifted up all the race of men upon clouds, as the Apostle Paul foretold. Along with them we shall be snatched up in clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And then shall come forth every evil spirit, both in the earth and in the abyss, wherever they are on the face of all the earth, from the rising of the sun even to the setting, and they shall be united to him that is served by the devil, that is, Antichrist, and they shall be lifted up upon the clouds. 


(Rev 11:13 NCV)  In the same hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city was destroyed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and those who did not die were very afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven.

This is very similar to what occurred when Jesus was raised from the dead. First the sky was darkened in the daytime and then an earthquake struck. These same types of signs will happen when the two witnesses are killed and then resurrected.

(Mat 27:45 NIV)  From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.

(Mat 27:54 NIV)  When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son of God!"

Following the resurrection of the two witnesses many will exclaim a similar thought saying, surely these were the prophets of God.

(Rev 11:14 NCV)  The second trouble is finished. Pay attention: The third trouble is coming soon.


(Rev 11:15 NCV)  Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet. And there were loud voices in heaven, saying: "The power to rule the world now belongs to our Lord and his Christ, and he will rule forever and ever."

(Rev 11:16-17 NCV)  Then the twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God, bowed down on their faces and worshiped God. They said: "We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, because you have used your great power and have begun to rule!


This is the time that the human race has been waiting for from the day that Adam and Eve fell into sin, the time of redemption. Notice also in the verse below that while it is time to reward the saints in heaven, it is time to pour out God’s wrath on those who destroy the earth.

(Rev 11:18 NCV)  The people of the world were angry, but your anger has come. The time has come to judge the dead and to reward your servants the prophets and your holy people, all who respect you, great and small. The time has come to destroy those who destroy the earth!"


(Rev 11:19 NCV)  Then God's temple in heaven was opened. The Ark that holds the agreement God gave to his people could be seen in his temple. Then there were flashes of lightning, noises, thunder, an earthquake, and a great hailstorm.

The Ark of the Covenant is seen in heaven. We are not told what this means but it just might be that after the rapture of the Church God will allow the Israelites to find the Ark of The Covenant that Jeremiah hid (according to 2 Maccabees in the Greek and Catholic bibles) when Israel was carried into captivity. While it is not the Ark that actually wins battles but God who sends the angels to battle for Israel, it is a symbol of their past and would be a great faith builder for the Jews if it were recovered after the Christians are gone.

2 Maccabees 2:4-8  RSV It was also in the writing that the prophet, having received an oracle, ordered that the tent and the ark should follow with him, and that he went out to the mountain where Moses had gone up and had seen the inheritance of God. (Mount Sinai) And Jeremiah came and found a cave, and he brought there the tent and the ark and the altar of incense, and he sealed up the entrance. Some of those who followed him came up to mark the way, but could not find it. When Jeremiah learned of it, he rebuked them and declared: "the place shall remain unknown until God gathers his people together again and shows his mercy. And then the Lord will disclose these things, and the glory of the Lord and the cloud will appear, as they were shown in the case of Moses, and as Solomon asked that the place should be specially consecrated.

The unconverted Jews will miss the rapture but if they find Ark shortly afterward, with which they were unbeatable in war when they had it and were following God’s will, It could cause them great rejoicing and lead them to salvation. Not that there is any magic by possessing the Ark, and angel did the miracles and destroyed their enemies when they had it. The Ark was just a symbol of their allegiance to God and he sent his angels to assist them when they were faithful. When they turn to Christ he through his angels will assist them again. Immediately after the rapture the Jews will realize that Jesus Christ was their Messiah and begin to pray for him to come back and rescue them also from the hand of Antichrist, and he will after the seven bowls are poured out.
