Against False Doctrine

CHAPTER 3:  THE RELIGION OF MYSTERY BABYLON

WE NEED TO TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT THE FALSE DOCTRINES OF "MYSTERY BABYLON" ACTUALLY ARE. IN THE NINETEEN HUNDRED YEARS SINCE THE FIRST ADVENT OF JESUS CHRIST, MANYCHRISTIAN CHURCHES HAVE ALMOST LOST THE TRUE TEACHINGS OF JESUS CHRIST AND HAVE SUBSTITUTED THEIR OWN TRADITIONS, DOCTRINES OFMEN, AND SOME OF THE TEACHINGS OF THE ANCIENT RELIGION OF MYSTERY BABYLON. EVEN THE CHURCHES THAT CLAIM TO DERIVE THEIR DOCTRINE DIRECTLY FROMTHE BOOK OF ACTS, START OUT CORRECTLY BY GOING RIGHT TO THE WORD OFGOD FOR THEIR BASIS OF FAITH, BUT THEN IMMEDIATELY JUMP RIGHT UP TO325 AD AND ACCEPT THE ERRORS THAT HAD ALREADY CREPT INTO THE CHURCH AT THAT TIME. THE GOSPEL IN ITS PURITY WAS LOST TO MOST OF THE WORLDSHORTLY AFTER 325 AD. NOTICE, I SAID THE GOSPEL IN IT'S PURITY. I DON'TMEAN TO IMPLY THAT THE GOSPEL WAS LOST, ONLY THAT WHEN THE GOSPEL WASBEING PREACHED FALSE DOCTRINE WAS ALSO BEING TAUGHT ALONG WITH IT.

Matthew 16:18 KJV And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

THE GOSPEL WILL NEVER BE TOTALLY LOST, BUT IT MAY BE OBSCURED BY AND TAUGHT ALONG WITH THE DOCTRINES OF MEN AND DEMONS. THE GATES OF HELL WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO COMPLETELY CONCEAL THE TRUTH, BUT AT TIMES THE DEVIL DOES SEEM TO HAVE THE CHURCH ON THE RUN.

THE RELIGION OF MYSTERY BABYLON WAS IN EXISTENCE BEFORE THE FLOOD AND WAS REINSTITUTED BY NIMROD AND ACCORDING TO LEGEND, HIS WIFE, SEMIRAMIS, WHEN THEY WERE RULING IN BABYLON. IT WAS IN THE CITY OF BABYLON THAT SATAN THROUGH NIMROD PROMOTED IDOLATRY SHORTLY AFTER THE FLOOD, AND AT THAT TIME BABYLON WAS THE CAPITAL CITY OF THE WORLD, THAT RULED OVER THE KINGS OF THE EARTH.

NIMROD

Genesis 10:8-10 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. Hewas a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD." The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Clan, in Shinar.(SHINAR IS MODERN DAY IRAQ)

NIMROD'S KINGDOM WAS THE FIRST ATTEMPT BY SATAN AFTER THE FLOOD TO BRING THE WORLD UNDER ONE GOVERNMENT. HE WAS SUCCESSFUL UNTIL GOD STEPPED IN AND CONFUSED THE LANGUAGES AT BABEL. THE BOOK OF JASHER (AN ANCIENT JEWISH HISTORY BOOK) GIVES US SOME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT NIMROD.

Jasher 7:23 & 44-47 And Cush theson of Ham, the son of Noah, took a wife in those days, andshe bare a son, and they called his name Nimrod, saying, atthat time the sons of men began to rebel and transgress against God. And Nimrod dwelt in Shinar, and he reigned securely, and he fought with his enemies and he subdued them, and he prospered in all his battles, and his kingdom became very great. And Nimrod reigned in the earth over all the sons of Noah, and they were all under hispower and counsel. And all of the earth was of one language, but Nimroddid not go in the ways of the Lord, and he was more wicked than allthe men that were before him, from the days of the flood until thosedays. And he made gods of wood and stone, and he bowed down before them, and he rebelled against the lord, and taught all his subjects and the peopleof the earth his wicked ways. (Nimrod means "Rebel".)

NIMROD LED THE WORLD BACK INTO IDOL WORSHIP AFTER THE FLOOD. ACCORDING TO JOSEPHUS, THE JEWISH HISTORIAN, IT WAS NIMROD WHO CONVINCED THE PEOPLE TO BUILD THE TOWER OF BABEL. THEIR PURPOSE WAS TO BUILD A CITY TOO HIGH TO BE REACHED BY THE WATERS OF ANOTHER FLOOD. THEY ALSO INTENDED TO KILL GOD WHEN THE TOWER REACHED TO HEAVEN, AND PUT THEIR OWN GODS IN HIS PLACE. IDOLATRY, PAYING REVERENCE TO SOMEONE OR SOMETHING OTHER THAN GOD IS THE MAIN THEME OF THE RELIGION OF "MYSTERY BABYLON."

WHEN YOU STUDY THE ANCIENT RELIGIONSAND MYTHOLOGY THAT EVOLVED DURING THE FIRST TWO THOUSANDYEARS OF HUMAN HISTORY, YOU WILL FIND THAT MANY OF THEM ARESIMILAR EXCEPT THAT THEIR GODS HAVE DIFFERENT NAMES. THE REASON FOR THIS IS BECAUSE WHEN GOD SCATTERED MAN AT THE TOWER OF BABEL,ALL PEOPLE HAD ONE COMMON RELIGION, MYSTERY BABYLON. WHEN GOD CHANGED THE LANGUAGES OF THE DIFFERENT TRIBES AND THEY MIGRATED THROUGHOUTTHE WORLD, THEY ALL CARRIED WITH THEM THE BASIC TENETS OF THE RELIGIONOF BABYLON BUT WITH DIFFERENT NAMES FOR THEIR GODS; BECAUSE THEIR LANGUAGES WERE NOW DIFFERENT. THIS IS THE REASON THAT NON-CHRISTIAN SCHOLARS,WHO STUDY ANCIENT RELIGION, CONCLUDE THAT THE GOD OF THE BIBLE ISJUST ANOTHER FORM OF THE OTHER ANCIENT RELIGIONS. TO FURTHER CONFUSE THE ISSUE SATAN ALSO INTRODUCED "POLYTHEISM," THE CONCEPT OF MANY GODS. NOT LONG AFTER BABEL THE EASTERN AND ORIENTAL RELIGIONS WERE SOON WORSHIPPING EVERYTHING BUT THE TRUE GOD.

MANY ANCIENT RELIGIONS ARE FOUNDED ON THE PROMISE OF GOD TO ADAM AND EVE, THAT HE WOULD SEND A MESSIAH. FROM THAT STARTING POINT, RELIGION IS SPLIT INTO TWO DISTINCT LINES. THE TRUE RELIGION BUILT ON THAT PROMISE AND CARRIED ON THROUGH ABRAHAM TO CHRIST AND THE FALSE LINE CARRIED ON BY SATAN THROUGH NIMROD AND HIS WIFE, SEMIRAMIS, AND THEN SPREAD THROUGHOUT THEEARTH FROM THE TOWER OF BABEL. WHEN YOU STUDY ANCIENT RELIGION AND UNDERSTAND THIS TRUTH, EVERYTHING BECOMES CLEAR AND MAKES GOOD SENSE.

WE WILL LOOK AT SOME OF THE DOCTRINES OF THE ANCIENT RELIGION OF MYSTERY BABYLON. SOME OF THESE WERE INSTITUTED BY NIMROD AND HIS WIFE, SEMIRAMIS, AND OTHERS WERE ADDED DURING OLD TESTAMENT TIMES. SATAN, THROUGH HIS ANCIENT KINGS AND PRIESTS, CREATED THE RELIGION OF MYSTERY BABYLON, USING THE PROPHECIES THAT GOD HAD GIVEN TO ADAM AND EVE, ABEL, SETH,ENOCH, AND ALL OF GOD'S PROPHETS PRIOR TO THE FLOOD, AS A GUIDELINE TO CREATE AN APPEARANCE THAT MYSTERY BABYLON WAS THE FULFILLMENT OF GOD'S PROMISES. HE WILL AGAIN TRY TO IMITATE GOD'S PROPHECIES INADVANCE WHEN HE SENDS THE ANTICHRIST AND THE FALSE PROPHET SEVEN YEARSBEFORE THE ACTUAL RETURN OF CHRIST. SOME OF THE DOCTRINES OF THE ANCIENTRELIGION OF "MYSTERY BABYLON," ARE LISTED BELOW. ALSO INCLUDED ARE OTHERPAGAN CUSTOMS THAT WERE GRADUALLY ASSIMILATED INTO CHURCH PRACTICE.

1. That the Babylonian priests had power to transform a mysterious drink containing wine and honey into a magical potion that would spiritually benefit the partaker. (Now replaced by the Eucharist or The Sacrifice of the Mass.)

2. That there was a "Queen of Heaven." She was known to the Babylonians as Ashtoreth, later shortened to Ishtar. (Maryology and the term "Easter" in place of "Passover.")

3. That Ashtoreth (or Semiramis) hada son named Tammuz, who was conceived by a sunbeam, whoshould also be worshipped along with his mother. (Madonna andChild)

4. That the priesthood should be unmarried. (Celibacy)

5. That there should be an order of unmarried women for religious service, known as "Vestal Virgins". (Nuns)

6. The use of prayer beads to count the number of prayers completed. (Rosary)

7. The use of statues in worship, the kissing of the statue of Baal, the Golden calf.(Statues and graven images)

8. The custom of praying for the dead who were believed to be in a limbo. (Purgatory)

9. The worship of the God "Dagon", the fish god, who wore a fish head for a hat. (The fish had worn by the Pope, known as the Miter, and the custom of eating fish on Friday, in honor of Dagon)

10. The use of a cross as a religious symbol. (Now adopted by Christians)

11. Prayer to a pantheon of gods, each one having his own particular area of dominance. (Prayerto the patron saints)

12. The worship of Baal, the sun god, whom Nimrod was believed to have become after his death. Semiramis started this doctrine when she became pregnant after Nimrod'sdeath and claimed that Nimrod was now the sun and that she hadbeen impregnated by a sunbeam. (Worship day changed to Sunday, in honor of the sun god) Her son Tammuz was also worshipped.

13. Nimrod revived the teachings of astrology that were in use before the flood. (Astrology is a common practice today.)

14. In Babylon, it was a law that noman could marry a virgin. All women were required to perform mystic sexual rites before they could marry. The only exception being the "Vestal Virgins". (Immorality permitted in the church)

15. The custom of mourning and weeping for Tammuz for forty days before the celebration of the Feast of Ishtar. (Today, this custom is known as Lent)

16. The practice that the clergy wassuperior to the laity and only the priests could performthe sacred rites. (This has been the teaching of The RomanChurch since the death of the Apostle John. This is the doctrine of the Nicolaitans.)

17. The use of round wafers that symbolized the sun and the moon. (Today, communion is celebrated with these wafers rather than broken bread, which symbolized the broken body of Jesus.)

18. The use of a golden goblet to administer the mystic drink. (The communion chalice, the legend of The Holy Grail)

19. The celebration of Saturnalia onDecember 25th, with the exchanging of gifts. (Christmas)

20. The use of obelisks as a fertility symbol, which was built standing straight up and pointing toward the sun. Obelisks represents the male genitalia, erect and pointing toward the sun, in honor of Nimrod and Baal. (The Obelisk standing in front of St. Peters Basilica was moved from Heliopolis, Egypt, to Rome. Heliopolis was the ancient center of worship for the sun god.) (Steeples)

21. The erecting of large ornate buildings for religious purposes, beginning with the Tower of Babel. (This is practiced today by Catholics, Protestants and television preachers.)

22. The custom of decorating a greentree with gold and silver. The green tree was a symbol offertility. (Christmas Trees)

23. The use of rabbits and eggs as fertility symbols. (Easter bunnies and the decorating of "Ishtar"eggs)

SCRIPTURE VERSES AGAINST SUCH PRACTICES

THE ERRORS THAT SATAN IMPLANTED INTOTHE CHURCH, SOMETIMES WITH DIFFERENT NAMES, ARE THE SAMEOLD ERRORS THAT HE DECEIVED THE ISRAELITES WITH IN THE OLD TESTAMENT.SATAN HAS NOT CHANGED HIS TACTICS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS. WHY SHOULDHE? HIS METHODS SERVE HIM WELL.

THE QUEEN OF HEAVEN

Jeremiah 7:17-18 NIV Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes of bread for the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to provoke me to anger.

BAAL, ASHTORETH AND DAGON

Judges 2:13-14 NIV because they forsook him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths. In his anger against Israel the LORD handed them over to raiders who plundered them. He sold them to their enemies all around, whom they were nolonger able to resist.

Judges 16:23 (KJV) Then the lords ofthe Philistines gathered them together for to offer a greatsacrifice unto Dagon their god,

SUN MOON AND STAR WORSHIP

Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NIV If a man or woman living among you in one of the towns the LORD gives you is found doing evil in the eyes of the LORD your God in violation of his covenant, and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars of the sky, and this has been brought to your attention, then you must investigate it thoroughly. If it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, take the man orwoman who has done this evil deed to your city gate and stone thatperson to death.

TAMMUZ

Ezekiel 8:12-14 NIV He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, 'The LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the land.'" Again, he said, "You will see them doing things that are even more detestable." Then he brought me to the entrance to the north gateof the house of the LORD, and I saw women sitting there, mourning for Tammuz.

MAGIC, SORCERY AND ASTROLOGY

Isaiah 47:7 & 9-15 NIV You said,'I will continue forever-- the eternal queen!' But you didnot consider these things or reflect on what might happen. Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjureit away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you. "Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood.Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they arelike stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Here are no coals to warm anyone; hereis no fire to sit by. That is all they can do for you-- these you havelabored with and trafficked with since childhood. Each of them goeson in his error; there is not one that can save you.

OBELISKS TO THE SUN GOD OF EGYPT

OBELISKS ARE THE SACRED PILLARS REFERRED TO IN THE VERSE BELOW.

Jeremiah 43:13 NIV There in the temple of the sun in Egypt he will demolish the sacred pillars and will burn down the temples of the gods of Egypt.'"

THE OBELISK THAT RESIDES IN ST. PETERS SQUARE IN THE VATICAN TODAY WAS MOVED THERE FROM EGYPT BY THE ROMAN EMPEROR CALIGULA. IT WAS PLACED IN ST. PETERS SQUARE IN 1586 BY ORDER OF POPE SIXTUS V. OBELISKS ARE PHALLIC SYMBOLS AND THEY REPRESENT THE MALE GENITALIA STANDING STRAIGHT UP IN THE AIR POINTING TOWARD THE SUN. THE TRADITION OF ERECTING STEEPLES ONMODERN DAY CHURCH BUILDINGS IS DERIVED FROM THE PAGAN PRACTICE OF ERECTING OBELISKS AND SACRED PILLARS.

CHRISTMAS AND CHRISTMAS TREES

THE ANCIENT PAGAN FEAST CALLED SATURNALIA WAS INCORPORATED IN CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE IN THE MIDDLE AGES. IT WAS RENAMED CHRISTMAS.

SATURNALIA
Probably originating in pagan springfertility rites, the first recorded carnival was the Egyptianfeast of Osiris, an event marking the receding of the Nile'sflood water. Carnivals reached a peak of riotous dissipation with the Roman Bacchanalia and Saturnalia. An ancient Roman godof agriculture, Saturn was later identified with the Greek godCronus, who fled to Italy after his dethronement by Zeus as rulerof the universe. Saturn settled on Rome's Capitoline Hill and taughtthe people agriculture and other arts of civilization. At the Saturnaliafestival, held in his memory every December (the winter sowing season),masters and slaves shared the same table as a sign that no social divisionsexisted during the Golden Age. Pre-Christian, medieval, and moderncarnivals share important thematic features. They celebrate the deathof winter and the rebirth of nature, ultimately recommitting the individualto the spiritual and social codes of the culture. Ancient fertility rites, with their sacrifices to the gods, exemplify this commitment, as do the Christian Shrovetide plays. On the other hand, carnivals allow parody of, and offer temporary release from, social and religious constraints. For example, slaves were the equals of their masters during the Roman Saturnalia; the medieval feast of fools included a blasphemous mass; and during carnival masquerades sexual and social taboos are sometimes temporarily suspended During the Middle Ages the Church attempted to control the celebrations. Popes sometimes served as patrons, the worst excesses were gradually eliminated, and carnival was assimilated asa last festival before the asceticism of Lent.

Jeremiah 10:3-4 NIV For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter.

MANY OF THE CUSTOMS OF THE RELIGION OF MYSTERY BABYLON AND OTHER
PAGAN PRACTICES STILL REMAIN TO THISDAY AND HAVE NOW BECOME TRADITIONS OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCHES.

THE EARLY DECREES OF THE POPES

BEFORE WE STUDY EXACTLY HOW ERROR CREPT INTO THE CHURCH, I WANT TO SAY THAT THIS IS NOT A "PICK ON THE ROMAN CATHOLICS" BOOK. ALMOST ALL OF THE OTHER CHRISTIAN CHURCHES OF THAT EARLY TIME PERIOD WERE IN THE PROCESS OF ADDING PAGAN PRACTICES OR FALSE DOCTRINE INTO THEIR WORSHIP ALSO, AS WE WILL SEE FROM THE ARTICLES BELOW.

MARCION
Marcion, d. AD c.160, a native of Sinope in Pontus, was the founder of a Christian sect that survived until the 4th century and beyond. A devoted Christian, Marcion made his way to Rome (c.140) and attached himself to the church there. He associated with the Syrian Gnostic, Cerdo, who was in Rome, and developed unorthodox views that brought him into conflict with the Roman church. Marcion argued that the Christian God of love could not have also been the Creator God of the Old Testament. About 140, Marcion collected ten of Paul's letters and an edited Gospel According to Saint Luke, which he purged of all legalistic and Old Testament references. According to Marcion, only Saint Paul had correctly understood the original teaching of Jesus. Marcion was excommunicated (c.144), but his following grew rapidly into a sect that rivaled the Catholic church. Marcion's rejection of the other three Gospels compelled the Christian church to define what it accepted as the true canon. Thus, the reaction to Marcion prompted the creation of the New Testament canon accepted today.

PAULICIANS
The Paulicians believed in two gods, one good and one evil, and taught that all matter was evil. They denied the humanity of Jesus and rejected the Old Testament, Catholic hierarchical order, and the notion of tradition. The Paulicians claimed that faith in Christ, who was an angel andtherefore incapable of crucifixion, saves people from judgment.

EBIONITES
A Jewish-Christian sect that flourished until the 4th century, the Ebionites accepted Jesus Christ as the greatest of the prophets but not as the Son of God. They practiced a rigorous asceticism and stressed the binding character of the Mosaic Law. After the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70, the Ebionites settled in Transjordan but remained outside the mainstream ofChristianity. They are often identified with the Nazarenes, a similar sect described by 4th-century writers.

MONTANISM
Montanism was a Christian apocalyptic movement that arose in the 2d century. It took its name from Montanus, a Phrygian, who, shortly after his baptism as a Christian (AD 156 or 172), claimed to have received a revelation from theHoly Spirit to the effect that he, as representative prophet ofthe Spirit, would lead the Christian church into its final stage.

Aided by two women, Maximilla and Priscilla (or Prisca), Montanus founded a sect of enthusiasts who preached the imminent end of the world, austere morality, and severe penitential discipline. They forbade second marriages, denied the divine nature of the church, and refused forgiveness for sins that persons committed after baptism. Montanus called for less church hierarchy and more charismatic prophecy. He regarded a life of seclusion and contempt of the world as the only true Christian ideal.

The Montanists seem to have sought renewal of the church from within through a rebirth of the religious enthusiasm that had marked Christian beginnings. As a spiritual and charismatic movement, Montanism posed a threat to the emerging church hierarchy. Despite a series of condemnations and continued opposition from orthodox Christian writers, however, Montanism did not disappear until about the 6th century.

MONOPHYSITISM
Monophysitism is the doctrine that Jesus Christ had only one nature, rather than two--divine andhuman. This belief is sometimes known as Eutychianism. Eutychestaught that in Jesus Christ the humanity was absorbed by the divinity, "dissolved like a drop of honey in the sea." Eutyches foughtagainst the Nestorian doctrine that the two natures of Christrepresented two distinct persons. His doctrine was condemned asheretical, however, at the Council of Chalcedon in 451.

Nonetheless, all Monophysites rejected the dogmatic formulas of Chalcedon, and efforts to reachan acceptable compromise failed. By the 6th century Monophysitism had a strong institutional basis in three churches: the Armenian Church, the Coptic Church, and the Jacobite Church, all of which remain nominally Monophysite Today.

THE CATHOLIC HISTORY IS THE EASIEST TO STUDY BECAUSE THEY HAVE KEPT DETAILED RECORDS OF THEIR CHURCH HISTORY SINCE 325 AD AND HAVE ALSO PRESERVED FOR US MANY RECORDS OF CHURCH HISTORY BEFORE THAT TIME. THE VATICAN LIBRARY IS ONE OF THE WORLDS GREATEST SOURCES OF HISTORICAL RECORDS.

THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH ALSO OVER TIME BECAME THE LARGEST CHRISTIAN ORGANIZATION AND HAS HAD AGREAT INFLUENCE ON ALL OF THE OTHER DENOMINATIONS THAT HAVE FORMED SINCE THEN. FOR THOSE REASONS WE WILL TRACE THE TRAIL OF ERROR AS IT BECAME CHURCH DOCTRINE THROUGH THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, TO THE PROTESTANT CHURCHES, AND TO THE CHURCHES OF TODAY.

SATAN, THROUGH THE POPES' DECREES DOWN THROUGH THE CENTURIES, GRADUALLY INTRODUCED SOME OF THEELEMENTS OF MYSTERY BABYLON INTO THE ROMAN CHURCH. THIS ISDOCUMENTED BY THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCHES' OWN HISTORICAL RECORDS. THE ROMAN CHURCH NOT ONLY ADMITS TO THE CHANGES MADE BY THEPOPES, BUT ALSO DEFENDS THEM.
YOU CAN INVESTIGATE THIS FOR YOURSELF BY RESEARCHING THE HISTORY OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH AND THE LIVES OF THE POPES THROUGH MATERIAL APPROVED OF BY THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH.

IT WAS THE CUSTOM OF THE POPES, STARTING WITH ST. LINUS IN 67 AD, TO INSTITUTE A RULE, A CUSTOM, AFEAST, OR A SAINT, INTO THE CHURCH DOCTRINE OR LITURGY. BY400 AD, THE ROMAN CHURCH HAD ADDED MANY FALSE DOCTRINES, SOME OFTHEM BEING A PART OF THE ANCIENT RELIGION OF MYSTERY BABYLON. DOCUMENTED BELOW ARE SOME OF THE CUSTOMS INSTITUTED BY THE POPES FROM THEIROWN APPROVED BOOK, "POPES THROUGH THE AGES", PUBLISHED BY NEFF-KANE, SAN RAFAEL, CALIFORNIA, COPYRIGHT 1980.

NOTE: THE DECREES OF THE POPES PRESENTED BELOW ARE ONLY A SMALL SAMPLING OF THE DECREES THAT WEREMADE DOWN THROUGH THE CENTURIES. ALMOST ALL OF THE 264 POPESMADE AT LEAST 2 OR THREE DECREES DURING THEIR TENURE. HUNDREDS OF NON BIBLICAL RULES HAVE BEEN MADE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE CHURCHAGE.

THE DECREES OF THE POPES

St. Alexander I (105-115 AD) issued the order that houses should be blessed with water to which salt had been added.

St. Sixtus I (115-125 AD) decreed that the sacred vessels should only be touched by the clergy.

St. Telesphorus (125-138 AD) orderedthat there be a fast for seven weeks before Passover. (Passover was later renamed Easter by the Romans, after the Goddess Ishtar, The Babylonian Queen of Heaven.) St. Anicetus (155-156 AD) During his reign the controversy over when to celebrate Easter began. God's time for the Feast of Passover is the 14th day of the Jewish month Nisan. The Romans had their own ideas as to when it should be celebrated.

St. Victor (198-199 AD) decreed thatan emergency baptism in a river, spring, sea, or marsh should be treated as Christian in full standing. (By doing this, he was taking away the power from the laity to baptize, except in an emergency, which makes it necessary for one to belong to the Roman Church to be baptized.)

He also decreed that all Christians should celebrate Easter on Sunday.

St. Calixtus (217-222 AD) decreed that sinners who truly repented could be received back into the church after a suitable penance. (From this beginning the Roman Church promoted the doctrine of salvation by good works, rather than by faith in Christ.)

St. Stephen I (254-257 AD) ordered the clergy not to use their consecrated vestments for dailypurposes.

St. Caius (283-296 AD) ordered that a man could not be a Bishop unless he was first a porter, reader, exorcist, acolyte, sub-deacon, deacon, and priest.

St. Sylvester (314-355 AD) During his reign the Ecumenical Council at Nicaea drew up the famous document, The Nicene Creed. (325 AD)

THE ROMAN EMPEROR CONSTANTINE DEMANDED THAT THIS COUNCIL BE HELD IN ORDER TO SETTLE THE MANY CONTROVERSIES ON CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE THAT WERE BEING ARGUED AT THE TIME. CONSTANTINE WAS THE FIRST ROMAN EMPEROR TO CLAIM TO BE A CHRISTIAN.

SOMEONE MIGHT ASK, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE DECREES OF THE POPES, MANY OF THEM SEEM VERY SPIRITUALLY MINDED. WE WILL TAKE AN INDIVIDUAL LOOK AT WHY IT WAS WRONG FOR THESE DECREES TO BE IMPLEMENTED.

EXPLANATION OF THE DECREES OF THE POPES

POPE ST. ALEXANDER
St. Alexander I (105-115 AD) issued the order that houses should be
blessed with water to which salt hadbeen added.

ST. ALEXANDER WAS ADDING SUPERSTITION TO THE CHURCH BY ISSUING THIS DECREE. THERE IS NO COMMAND INSCRIPTURE TO BLESS HOUSES WITH SALT WATER.

 POPE ST. SIXTUS
St. Sixtus I (115-125 AD) decreed that the sacred vessels should only be touched by the clergy.

ST. SIXTUS WAS BEGINNING THE SEPARATION OF THE CLERGY FROM THE LAITY. HE WAS INSTITUTING THE DOCTRINE OF THE NICOLAITANS, WHICH MEANS THAT THE PRIESTS RULE OVERTHE LAITY.

Revelation 2:6 (NIV) But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

NICO MEANS "OVER" AND "LAITANS" SIGNIFIES THE LAITY, THE CHURCH MEMBERS. GOD HATES THIS DOCTRINE. THE CHURCH IS A BODY OF BELIEVERS, AND CHRIST IS THE HEAD OF IT.

POPE ST. TELESPHORUS
St. Telesphorus (125-138 AD) orderedthat there be a fast for seven weeks before Passover.

RITUAL FASTS WERE CONDEMNED BY CHRIST AND SAID TO BE OF NO SPIRITUAL VALUE.

Matthew 6:16-18 NIV "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfiguretheir faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

JESUS SAID TO FAST IN SECRET TO OBTAIN THE ATTENTION OF GOD.

POPE ST. ANICETUS
St. Anicetus (155-156 AD) During hisreign the controversy over when to celebrate Easter began.

PASSOVER WAS RENAMED EASTER BY THE ROMANS, AFTER THE GODDESS CALLED BY MANY NAMES SUCH AS ASHTORETH, ASTARTE, ISHTAR, OR EOSTRE, THE PAGAN RELIGIONS "QUEEN OF HEAVEN."

EASTER
Early Christians observed Easter on the same day as Passover (14-15 Nisan, a date governed by a lunar calendar). In the 2nd century, the Christian celebration was transferred to the Sunday following the 14-15 Nisan, if that day fell on a weekday.

According to the Venerable Bede, thename Easter is derived from the pagan spring festival ofthe Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre, and many folk customs associatedwith Easter (for example, Easter eggs) are of pagan origin. Easter Day is currently determined as the first Sunday after the full moon on or after March 21. The Eastern Orthodox churches, however, follow the Julian rather than the Gregorian calendar, so their celebration usually falls several weeks later than the Western Easter. Easteris preceded by the period of preparation called lent.
The Software Toolworks Encyclopedia

Leviticus 23:5 NIV The Lord's Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month.

THE JEWISH FIRST MONTH, NISAN IS COMPARABLE TO OUR MONTH OF APRIL.

1 Corinthians 5:7-8 NIV For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival,

THERE WAS NO COMMAND OF GOD TO CHANGE EITHER THE DATE OF THE CELEBRATION OF PASSOVER OR TO CHANGE THE NAME OF IT TO EASTER.

POPE ST. VICTOR
St. Victor (198-199 AD) decreed thatan emergency baptism in a river, spring, sea, or marsh should be treated as Christian in full standing. He also decreed that all Christians should celebrate Easter on Sunday.

ST. VICTOR CONTINUED TO SPREAD THE DOCTRINE OF THE NICOLAITANS, FURTHER ELEVATING THE CLERGY ABOVE THE LAITY. HE FORBADE THE LAITY TO BAPTIZE, EXCEPT IN A LIFE AND DEATH EMERGENCY. THIS MADE IT NECESSARY FOR ONE TO JOIN THE ORGANIZED ROMAN CHURCH IN ORDER TO BE BAPTIZED.

1 Corinthians 1:11-15 NIV My brothers, some from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas "; still another, "I follow Christ." Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name ofPaul? I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispusand Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized into my name.

PAUL, WHO OFTEN TRAVELED ALONE, MADEOTHERS WHOM HAD BEEN RECENTLY CONVERTED DO THE BAPTIZINGWHILE HE CONCENTRATED ON PREACHING. HE DID NOT TRY TO MONOPOLIZE ALL OF GOD'S WORK FOR HIMSELF OR FOR ONE PARTICULAR GROUP OR CHURCH,AS POPE ST. VICTOR WAS DOING.

1 Corinthians 1:17 NIV For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel--not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

ST. VICTOR ALSO BEGAN TO MAKE MORE RULES CONCERNING WHEN PASSOVER SHOULD BE CELEBRATED, WHICH BY THEN WAS COMMONLY CALLED EASTER, FURTHER VIOLATING GOD'S COMMANDTHAT IT BE CELEBRATED ON THE FOURTEENTH DAY OF THE MONTH OF NISAN.

POPE ST. CALIXTUS
St. Calixtus (217-222 AD) decreed that sinners who truly repented could be received back into the church after a suitable penance.

FROM THIS BEGINNING THE ROMAN CHURCHPROMOTED THE DOCTRINE OF OBTAINING SALVATION BY GOOD WORKS,RATHER THAN BY FAITH IN CHRIST. PENANCE WAS NOW REQUIRED TOATONE FOR SIN.

pen·ance 1. An act of self-mortification or devotion performed voluntarily to show sorrow for a sin or other wrongdoing. 2. A sacrament in some Christian churches that includes contrition, confession to a priest, acceptance of punishment, and absolution. In this sense, also called reconciliation.

POPE ST. STEPHEN
St. Stephen I (254-257 AD) ordered the clergy not to use their consecrated vestments for dailypurposes.

ST. STEPHEN WAS AGAIN ADDING TO CHURCH LAW THINGS THAT WERE NOT COMMANDED BY GOD. IN FACT, NOWHERE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT IS IT EVEN COMMANDED THAT THE MINISTERSAND PRIESTS SHOULD HAVE SPECIAL CLOTHES OR ROBES FOR USE IN THE CHURCH SERVICE.

POPE ST. CAIUS
St. Caius (283-296 AD) ordered that a man could not be a Bishop unless he was first a porter, reader, exorcist, acolyte, sub-deacon, deacon, and priest.

ST. CAIUS WAS FURTHER SEPARATING THECLERGY FROM THE LAITY. BY THE MAKING OF ALL OF THESE RULESHE WAS PREVENTING GODLY PEOPLE WHO HAD GIFTS OF LEADERSHIP FROMTHE HOLY SPRIT FROM ADMINISTRATING IN THE CHURCH.

1 Timothy 3:1-7 NKJV This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Titus 1:7-9 NKJV For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

GOD HAD ALREADY LAID DOWN THE RULES FOR BECOMING A BISHOP IN THE SCRIPTURES. HE DID NOT NEED HELP FROM ST. CAIUS IN ADDING TO THOSE QUALIFICATIONS.

POPE ST. SYLVESTER
St. Sylvester (314-355 AD) During his reign the Ecumenical Council at Nicaea drew up the famous document, The Nicene Creed. (325 AD)

WE WILL STUDY THE NICENE CREED IN THE NEXT CHAPTER.

WE SHOULD NOT BE SURPRISED THAT FALSEHOOD ENTERED THE CHURCH AND STILL RESIDES THERE TODAY. JESUS PREDICTED IT.

Matthew 7:15 KJV Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly theyare ravening wolves.

Matthew 24:11 KJV And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

Matthew 24:24-25 KJV For there shallarise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall showgreat signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.
